Artist Trading Cards

Most students never get to give their art away, much less sell it. So i thought it would be cool to do this lesson on ATC's. I have a ton of card stock laying around, so I cut it up, and handed them out. Sure they aren't the correct size, but who cares?! The students loved it! When it came time to trade, it was chaos! I even made a few to trade with them!

Some students made diptychs, while others made singles.

5th Grade Contour Line Drawings

I introduced this lesson last year, and with these kids having never been exposed to this approach, the results were mixed. I found this drawing in my folder o' art that I keep from years past. I thought I'd share it.

5th Grade Burger Collage

I never throw away construction paper, instead I use it for collages. With grilling season on the brink, I had my 5th graders make burgers with collage. This was a team project split up by table. After they were created, we voted on them as a class. I hung the winners up in the cafeteria along with a plaque with their names on them. I was amazed by how creative these kids were with the ingredients. Check em out!

4th Grade 8-Bit Drawing's

With how much the kids these days play Minecraft, I thought it would be cool to do a lesson on 8-bit art. The response was overwhelming. The students loved it! There is also a site called make8bitart.com. I had students create their own art on there, print it out, and bring it to me for extra credit. My inbox was full with stuff the kids created. I'll definitely be doing this project again.

2nd Grade Snake Lines

My second graders explored lines today and what better way to express them than with snakes! We explored wave, spiral, zig zag, curvy and straight. Here are some examples.

1st Grade Picasso Portraits

My first graders made some Picasso faces today. We were studying the way Picasso made faces and the colors he used. The students really had fun drawing these simple faces. Here are a few examples.

5th Grade Pattern Hands

I had my 5th grade classes trace their hands on a piece of paper and then make different patterns in the spaces. They colored them in such a way that their hands were either warm or cool, and the background was the opposite. These two were great examples. I will post the template and lesson plan soon. These examples are from my 5th Grade class.
